The HIFR and Obstruction Lights act as identifiers to the approaching pilot.
The HIFR Lights are mounted so that they identify and assist any approaching pilot, to line up with the HIFR area.
The general OBSTRUCTION/OBSTACLE Lights are mounted, so that they identify to any approaching pilot the outline of the vessels superstructure, which would present a hazard to flying. Obstruction Lights identify fixed obstructions on the superstructure. Obstacle Lights identify moving obstacles, e.g. a crane.
