Weather measurement is a critical service required at all airports and airfields. The FAA has categorised AWOS systems into three.
- AWOS-1 to measure Pressure, Wind, Temperature, Dewpoint and density altitude
- AWOS-2 to measure Pressure, Wind, Temperature, Dewpoint, altitude density and visibility
- AWOS-3 to measure Pressure, Wind, Temperature, Dewpoint, altitude density, visibility and cloud height
AGIMET Air Systems
AWOS 3 systems are the only ones approved for instrument landings by the FAA and all AGIMET Air AWOS systems comply with the AWOS 3 requirements.
AGIMET Air is a flexible AWOS system that measures airport meteorological conditions using best in class sensors. Wind and visibility sensors are AGI designs proved in trials against reference sensors. All the other sensors are chosen for their proven reliability and accuracy.
AWOS Expansion Each AGIMET Air system is configured to suit the airport's requirements and the processor can be single or multi processor depending on the sensor data and the requirement for hot standby resilient systems. Built using COTS computers, the system architecture enables an AGIMET Air system to expand to match the airport's growth.
AWOS Maintenance and Installation The AGIMET Air design incorporates diagnostic routines for the sensors, data processing and system hardware. This means that any system problems are displayed on the engineering maintenance terminal so that the operator can take appropriate action.
The system has proved highly reliable in operation and is supplied with a lengthy warranty. Using high quality components reduces the operational spares holding, which in turn reduces the whole life cost of an AGIMET air AWOS system.
Installation is simple and can be done by the airport staff prior to AGI commissioning the system and achieving the site acceptance test.
