Aeronautical & General Instruments Limited (AGI) is an established British company, which manufactures a wide range of instruments and systems for the defence and civil markets worldwide. Over the years since its foundation in 1915, AGI has built up a reputation for high quality, well-engineered products that employ electronic, electromechanical and optical technologies. Innovative solutions to technically demanding problems are often an integral feature of the company’s designs.
AGI products are in use in over 50 countries worldwide, often destined for continuous and critical use in harsh environments such as at sea, in the battlefield or at busy airport runways, where reliable operation is essential. Products which have been designed for low maintenance, high reliability and high availability in service, resulting in low cost of ownership to the customer.
The Company is located on the south coast of England in Poole, Dorset where all design and manufacturing takes place. AGI has a strong engineering capability and employs teams of highly qualified design engineers, technicians and draughtsman to create high technology products and systems to satisfy the requirements of customers globally.
Our core competences are in digital and analogue electronics, software, electro-optical, electro-mechanical (retransmission and motion control). We also have specialist knowledge in the design of low magnetic signature electronics to Stanag 2897 levels. In a world where cradle-to-grave support and turnkey system solutions are becoming the norm, AGI completes the process with a team of Customer Support engineers. This team provides the logistical support services necessary throughout the life of the equipment, such as installation, commissioning, training, documentation, complete spares, support, overhaul and repair services.
AGI exports the majority of its products to customers throughout the world. Reliable operation is essential, so all of our equipment is designed for low maintenance, high reliability and high availability in service, meaning low cost of ownership to the end-user.
Good design, high quality components, rigorous manufacturing and thorough testing processes have enabled AGI to achieve its reputation for quality worldwide. AGI hold accreditations to the international recognised quality approvals for design, manufacture, test, installation, servicing and software disciplines, including ISO 9001.
AGI have recently embarked upon a Lean/Sigma transformation programme encompassing all aspects of the organisations operations and activities. We have chosen Lean/Sigma as our unifying framework in order to ensure the achievement of our Critical Success Factors. Through our Policy Deployment model we have managed to connect strategies, goals, processes and projects within and across Business Units with a set of KPI’s that connect us together and drive accountability at all levels.
As we move forward, this methodology will enable us to continue the transformation of our organisation and help transition Lean/Sigma from ‘special project work’ to ‘the way we do things around here’.
